SIGHT-SEEING: CREATING A COMMUNITY OF LOVE AND MUTUALITY

My job was to help Christians to understand poverty and injustice issues. My sense is that Australian Christians are sincere about their faith. They have experienced the amazing grace of God, and they want to respond to his love by showing compassion to the poor. But I find it hard to explain to them what it means to be poor. It is because to some degree poverty has to be experienced. Australia is such an affluent country that it is not easy for middle or high income earners to understand poverty. I was born in a relatively poor urban neighbourhood in Asia. As achild I had to work to earn money so that we could have enough to make ends meet.
