Christian Theology in a Thumbnail: God (1)
The Christian God is three-in one, one-in-three, unique
among all others bearing the title “God.”
God is not like a billiard ball, whole and self-sufficient in his
oneness. Rather, God is one as Father,
Son, and Holy Spirit. In other words,
God is his relationships! He is “ always and at the time the Father, the
Son, and the Holy Spirit.” The model of molecules we used to make in high
school chemistry class where we used toothpicks or pipe cleaners to connect Styrofoam
balls to each other to picture a molecule is a more appropriate (though still
limited) way to think of this God.
God. Since we
are created in God’s image we are our relationships too! We live for the Father, through the Son, in
the power of the Spirit. We live with
and for another as well. Community not
loneliness is our way of life.
Responsibility and response-ability are divine gifts that make this life
possible. Belonging not isolation is our
destiny. And all this because the
Christian God is the triune God!
